It is a well-established fact that chronic ailments can be cured or at the least controlled by making subtle lifestyle changes along with proper nutrition.Good nutrition, daily exercise and adequate sleep are the foundations of healthy living. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), healthy living is a way of living that lowers the risk of being seriously ill or dying early. Health is not just about avoiding a disease or illness. The definition of health includes the physical, mental and social well-being.
With increasing prevalence of life-style diseases, one out of four Indians is at risk of dying from non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cardio-vascular ailments or cancer before the age of seventy. Obesity is caused due to poor eating habits and ignorance towards our health over decades and of course the stress levels of today’s modern lifestyle. This has lead to the worldwide epidemic of chronic diseases especially type2 Diabetes.
Lifestyle medicine is a medical specialty that uses therapeutic lifestyle interventions as a primary modality to treat chronic conditions including, but not limited to, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. It is the use of evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic intervention — including a whole-food eating pattern, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connection. Lifestyle changes and medicine can address up to 80% of chronic diseases. A lifestyle medicine approach to population care has the potential to arrest the decades-long rise in the prevalence of chronic conditions and their burdensome costs.
Medical evidences which support therapeutic carbohydrate restriction and monitored fasting are available. Intermittent fasting is now an internet rage. Newer researches and strategies of carbohydrate restriction and therapeutic fasting have consistently shown that this epidemic of obesity and diabetes, sometimes referred collectively as “Diabesity” can be cured or in the least controlled where its complications do not cause severe damage.
Fasting has long been a part of India’s religious and social environment and is time tested ancient tradition. Surprisingly, fasting has also been known to cure diabetes and this fact has been known for close to 100 years! One of the most famous diabetologists in history – Dr. Elliot Joslin wrote about it in 1916!
It has been used not only for weight loss, but to improve concentration, extend life, prevent Alzheimers, prevent insulin resistance and even reverse the entire aging process. Fasting is simply a pattern of “when” to eat. It’s not a diet plan, it’s just a conscious decision to skip meals, like breakfast, on purpose.
Maintaining good health doesn't happen by accident. It requires work, smart lifestyle choices, and the regular checkup and lab tests and a supportive medical team who understands and helps you achieve your target. However, it is important that you speak to an expert physician before making any significant changes in your current eating pattern or lowering your carbohydrate intake. This is especially important if you are on medications that can cause low blood sugar called as hypoglycemia. Certain medications need to be changed and others need to be monitored when starting with such unique approaches. Therefore diabetic patients should not undertake any such interventions without suitable monitoring. With the right approach, you can see benefits in terms of improved diabetes control, weight loss, control of cholesterol and blood pressure levels.

I am a senior Consultant Physician and I am a type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patient, my blood sugar levels were suddenly increased at the beginning of this year. I was advised addition of long acting Insulin along with my oral medication. I contacted Dr. Deepti Arora and her team. They helped me lose my weight (13 kg ) in 3 months ,took me off insulin and oral anti diabetic and anti hypertensive medication by controlling my diet and including regular physical exercise in my daily regime. A grand salute to my medical college batchmate and friend, Dr. Deepti, she has changed my life drastically. Two years back, most of the doctors advised me to start medicines for my diabetes and bp issues. Being a doctor myself, I was very much depressed and then I happen to speak to Deepti about it. She told me to manage my weight and lifestyle. She put me on to her team which helped me lose almost 12 kilos in three months and this helped put my diabetes under check. Dr. Deepti is a gem of a person, having a very positive attitude and soft spoken. She has well trained team.
She had been introduced to me by our family friend who is also a diabetic patient and was under her treatment. I started taking my treatment , it was a good experience. She motivated me at every step. Her team is very cordial.
I shed around 15kg of weight without feeling any weakness or fatigue and my sugar level came down to 5.8 from 7.9 (A1.c) without any medicine.

Dr Deepti and team-Thank you so much for everything. From the moment I met you I could tell you were different from everyone. You were the ONLY one who gave me assurance that its absolutely possible to lose weight with hypothyroidism.
I was tired of hearing from others that weight loss is extremely slow and frustrating for individuals with thyroid. However you made it possible and I still couldn’t believe myself. While I struggled losing 1 kg in a month you made me lost 10 kg in less than 3 months with diet, no supplements no exercise. You are a magician, I cannot thank you enough to for making me who I am today.
